As a way of enhancing the love of football and its great influence to the communities, Maloti Mountain Cement (MMC) will once again host the second annual Maloti Mountain Charity Cup, which was first referred to as Berea Charity Cup.

Set to take place at Leshoboro Stadium, Mafeteng on October, 5 this initiative recognises and supports the less fortunate. It is also in commemoration of the 200 years of Basotho nation.

MMC Charity Cup will feature teams that finished the premier league last season in the top four. LMPS FC will play against Bantu FC in the first match, while Matlama FC will play against Lioli in the second match, with winners locking horns in the final.

The winner of the tournament will pocket M100,000 and the runners up M50,000. The losers will each take home M25,000.

Individual prizes include three men of the match awards who will get M1000 each. The best goalkeeper will get M2000 and the best coach M2000, while the top goal scorer will receive M3000.

MMC managing director Lehlohonolo Kenny Lephema told journalists at a press conference yesterday that last year was the first initiative where MCC gave street vendors M50,000. They were advised to group themselves to enable them to access bulk buying in order to beat competitors.

“So, this year we are extending a hand to Mafeteng vendors and we are planning the same approach together with the hosting team, Bantu FC. May we all note the tournament is a charity initiative; we are not making any profit, rather we are spending.

“Just like the previous year, proceeds from the sale of tickets will go towards community initiatives, while the prize monies are all from MMC,” Lephema noted.
