Telecommunications giant, Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL), has welcomed the official launch of the Ha Lepolesa Base Transceiver Station (BTS) in Mafetengby Deputy Prime Minister, Nthomeng Majara.

The Ha Lepolesa tower is one of 48 constructed by the Ministry of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation with funding support from the African Development Bank, as part of government’s strategic programme to expand network connectivity across the country.

Speaking on behalf of ETL during the launch on Friday, General Manager for Sales and Services, LebohangRamaisa, thanked the government for prioritising rural connectivity infrastructure.

Ramaisa said the tower is more than a physical structure; it is a bridge to opportunity, adding that it will enable the surrounding villages to access reliable voice and high-speed 5G internet services.

“Beyond connectivity, it unlocks access to critical digital platforms and financial services such as EcoCash, which are instrumental in advancing financial inclusion and economic freedom,” he noted.

In her remarks, Communication Minister NthatiMoorosi said the rollout of the towers reflects government’s deliberate efforts to close the digital divide between urban and rural communities.

She further called on the community to take collective responsibility in safeguarding the infrastructure.

“Vandalism and theft of network equipment undermine national development and delay progress for the very communities the projects are intended to serve,” Moorosi added.

On her part, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane, welcomed the commissioning of the tower as a direct response to longstanding requests from the people of QalabaneConstituency.

“Improved connectivity will stimulate local economic activity, improve access to government services and strengthen inclusion for our people,” said Matlanyane, who is the MP for the area.

Majara underscored government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the needs of Basotho across the country are met with urgency and equity.
