First National Bank (FNB) Lesotho has donated seeds and fertilizers worth M60 000 to 20 farmers around the country.
The farmers are from different associations that fall under the Lesotho National Farmers’ Union (LENAFU).
Speaking at the handover ceremony on Friday, the vice president of LENAFU, Daniel Chakela, welcomed the donation.
He said farmers have always had challenges getting loans as banks regarded them as a business risk.
Chakela thanked FNB Lesotho for acknowledging that fertilizers and seeds are expensive, hence the donation.
“I am grateful on behalf of the farmers,” he said, adding farmers can no open accounts with FNB Lesotho.
One of the beneficiaries, ‘Mathakane Kepi, who is part of the Basali Khoebong Association said they were looking forward to good rains so that they can feed the nation.
On her part, FNB Lesotho CEO Delekazi Mokebe said she was happy that young women were taking farming seriously.
Mokebe wished the farmers a successful season.
“Let us pray for moderate rains,” she said.
