The Lesotho Horticultural Incubation and Training Centre (LHITC) will tomorrow host a two-day market readiness workshop for fruit farmers at Mahobong in Leribe.
LHITC has developed a training programme aimed at equipping farmers with the appropriate technical and entrepreneurial skills. The workshop will be facilitated in collaboration with department of Marketing in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition.
Communication specialist at the Competiveness and Financial Inclusion project, Lihaelo Nkaota, said the objective of the workshop is to capacitate deciduous fruit farmers under incubation, enabling them to develop and manage profitable agribusiness enterprises.
Nkaota said the training will encompass marketing strategies and market linkages, with particular emphasis on value addition and buyer negotiation skills.
“High-value fruits play a critical role in commercial agriculture, driven by strong
market demand and export potential, with positive spillover effects on employment
creation,” she noted.
