The government has acknowledged the alarming rise in unemployment, particularly among the youth.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Prime Minister Sam Matekane announced an ambitious plan to create no fewer than 70,000 job opportunities for young people.

Matekane said the government recognises that the high youth unemployment rate is a wake-up call that demands urgent action.

He noted that the prospects for graduates securing employment are steadily deteriorating, prompting the government to step in with targeted interventions.

“The government has decided to assist by introducing labour-intensive initiatives,” Matekane stated.

The aim is to build the skills and capacity of young people across key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, technology, and the creative industries.
