The High Court will on Thursday this week deliver judgment on the bail application of Basotho Covenant Movement (BCM) leader, Dr. Tšepo Lipholo, who is facing several charges.
Dr. Lipholo is accused of sedition, contempt, human trafficking, disrespecting the Royal Family, and incitement.
He is joined by seven others on other serious charges, including treason, stemming from an alleged plan to overthrow the government of Lesotho and reclaim land from South Africa by force.
The accused reportedly formed a team that attended meetings with residents and chiefs in Mohale’s Hoek and Taung, soliciting support for Dr. Lipholo to be declared king of the territory that was formerly the colony of Basutoland.
The group allegedly recruited young Basotho males aged between 18 and 35 from various districts, including Mokhotlong, to undergo training in preparation for the land reclamation. The training was reportedly set to take place in South Africa, and a military budget was prepared for this purpose.
The alleged plan was reportedly devised and executed between April 2025 and June 2025, in the district of Maseru.
