Employees at fast food outlet Hungry Lion Maseru Mall branch have downed tools, demanding better renumeration and working conditions.
The workers want a salary increase from the current M2700 to M4800 per month, in alignment with their South African counterparts.
They also complained about deplorable working conditions, including defrosting ice-cold meat by hand due to lack of proper uniforms.
“We’re forced to defrost meat manually. This poses significant risks to our health. It highlights a severe lack of adherence to safety protocols within the workplace,” one of the affected workers told theReporter.
“We are treated unfairly. We work hard, but our salaries do not reflect our efforts, especially when compared to South Africa. And to top it off, we risk our health every day with these unsafe practices and without proper gear,” said the employee, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.
The striking workers have vowed to continue their industrial action until their demands are met and their working conditions significantly improved.
