The Lesotho Council of NGOs (LCN) will this week holdpublic dialogues in Mafeteng and Maseru districts to present a project aimed at finding ways to reduce violence in communities by strengthening existing peace infrastructures and promoting inclusive peacebuilding processes
The initiative also seeks to engage women into leadership and decision making processes, as well as raise awareness and provide education on fundamental human rights within communities across the country.
The “Supporting Community-driven Violence Reduction and Sustainable Peace in Lesotho” project is being implemented with support from the UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme.
In a statement, the LCN gender, youth, and childrencommission coordinator, Mantsalla Ramakhula, said they will hold public meetings at Kolo Ha Petlane in Mafeteng district and Qeme Ha Mantsebo in Maseru on Thursdayand Friday respectively.
“Our overall goal is to create peace committees that will promote peace, mediate and prevent conflicts in communities,” she noted.
She added that violence in communities raises human rights concerns which if not addressed, derail sustainable development.
The organisation will also hold a workshop for local leaders over the weekend.
