Lesotho to take part in Zim athletics championships

Lesotho is expected to take part in the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Southern Region Senior Championships to be held in Zimbabwe on 26–27 July 2025.

More than 300 athletes and officials from at least 10 Southern African Development Community (SADC)countries are expected to attend the event.

The Championships will be held under the theme: “One Track. One Region. One Dream,” showing a powerful reminder of the shared aspirations of the Southern African athletics family.

According to the hosts, National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) president Tendai Tagara, the competition will serve as a powerful showcase of talent, unity, and regional collaboration in sport.

“Zimbabwe is ready. As SADC Chair and host, we are proud to open our doors to the region. Every detail—from logistics to competition—is being finalised. The nation stands behind our athletes, and we look forward to hosting a successful and inspiring championship,” he said in a statement.

The following countries have so far confirmed participation: Zambia, Malawi, Seychelles, Angola, Mozambique, Mauritius, Eswatini, hosts Zimbabwe, and Lesotho.

“Further confirmations from remaining member federations are expected in the coming days, underscoring the region’s enthusiasm and readiness to compete at the highest level.

“This event is about regional excellence, collaboration, and celebrating the spirit of SADC youth. Harare 2025 will be a proud moment for African athletics and a milestone for our hosting legacy,” said Cynthia Phiri, Secretary General, National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe.

As a biennial regional athletics fixture, the Southern Region Senior Championships provide critical exposure and qualification opportunities for elite athletes en route to global competitions.
