The Matala Local Court has approved a repayment plan for a M2200 loan between two Maseru residents, following a protracted dispute.
The case between ‘Mateboho Mohapi (38) and Paul Masoabi (62) was presided over by court president ‘Malepene Ntlobo this week.
The crux of the matter centered around an unpaid loan, initially amounting to M2000, which Masoabi was supposed to repay with an interest of M200, totalling M2200.
Mohapi explained her predicament to the court, detailing the arrangement she had made with Masoabi.
Mohapi said Masoabi had promised to return the borrowed amount along with the agreed interest. However, when the repayment deadline passed, Masoabi failed to comply.
Frustrated by his lack of response, Mohapi approached Masoabi with hopes of negotiating a repayment plan. Despite her efforts, he remained unyielding, prompting her to seek legal recourse.
During the court proceedings, Masoabi conceeded that he owed Mohapi the full amount of M2200. He proposed a structured repayment plan, suggesting to pay M500 per month for two months, followed by M400 for the subsequent three months.
This plan was met with approval from Mohapi, who expressed her willingness to accept the terms before the court.
Ntlobo ordered Masoabi to settle the case opening charges, which amounted to M340, within 30 business days. Furthermore, she confirmed the repayment plan, ordering Masoabi to adhere to the agreed monthly payments until the debt is fully repaid.
