The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Business Development will host a high-level fashion show on Tuesday next week to boost the country’s struggling textiles sector.
The show titled ‘Pioneering Excellence in Lesotho Expression’ (PELE) will be hosted through the Regional Value Chain Lesotho (RVCL+) project.
According to the Public Relations Officer in the ministry, Nyakallo Ntsinyi, the RVCL+ project aims to foster inclusive economic growth and strengthen sustainable regional and international trade through value chains development.
The apparel and textile industry is one of the priority sectors supported by this project as it accounts for a substantial share of formal employment and export earnings.
“This fashion show is considered a key instrument to promote business linkages and attract investment into the textiles sector. It will also provide an opportunity to engage directly with emerging designers and producers fostering potential trade and international partnerships,” Ntsinyi said.
The RVCL+ project is funded by the European Union and the German government, and implemented by GIZ.
The event will be graced by the presence of His Majesty King Letsie III, Prime Minister Sam Matekane, ministers, EU Ambassador, German Embassy, and other development partners.
