The ministry of foreign affairs and international relations has suspended the Director of Consular Affairs, Japan Mntambo, with immediate effect, pending investigations and a possible disciplinary hearing.

Mntambo is accused of facilitating a visa approval for a Member of Parliament, Dr Tšepo Lipholo, for his ‘private travel” to the United States of America last week.

“As you are aware, it is not the practice of the ministry to facilitate private international travel for citizens. Your actions in regard are considered a serious breach of protocol and warrant further investigations,” reads a letter addressed to Mntambo by the principal secretary in the ministry of foreign affairs and international relations, Thabang Lekhela.
