‘Mapoloko Mohai who hails from Semonkong, Maseru crafts mirrors using skewers, cardboard boxes and plastic spoons, an inspiration drawn from her love of decoration and home wares that enhance her house’s aesthetic aura.
Mohai started her business last year after she decided to use her own hands to put bread on the table.
She explains that her enthusiasm in crafts began a long time ago and she always had passion for drawing flowers and turn theming in to a concrete product resembling the drawing.
“Whenever I am not doing anything at home, I always want to occupy myself by drawing flowers and other beautiful home wares. Thereafter, I collect any materials that could be useful to create my work and make it exactly like the drawing.
“I use skewers, plastic spoons, mirrors in their different shapes and sizes and a box. Using glue, grill sticks and spoons, I create a mirror with an attractive look, while also considering accurate measurements,” Mohai said.
She noted that since the business commenced last year, it is doing well as many people seem to love her products.
Mohai worked as a domestic worker in Maseru but still did her crafts; she later resolved to focus on the business after losing her job later last year.
Her business also contributes to conserving the environment, she says.
Mohai envisions massive growth in her business in the immediate future, because she is capable of creating various products out of any material she may think of.
“I am able to do anything related to home ware, requested by a customer. Besides mirrors, I also make couches using wood and sponge applying my unique decoration,” she stated.
Mohai also indicated that she has limited stock of some of her products and, as a result, she appealed for financial support from anyone who can assist in order for her business to grow.
“To Basotho who always wail about unemployment, I would like to say a job is not all about being employed, rather we can use our hands to create our own jobs. A person just needs to identify their skills and talents and make money out of them,” Mohai added.
Mohai is available near Kingway Mall Maseru. She can also be contacted on +266 57809773 both on call and WhatsApp.
