MP for the Matala constituency, Dr Tseliso Moroke, has handed over five walkie-talkies (two-way radio devices) to members of the local community policing group, commonly known as ‘Mahokela’.
The gadgets are expected to strengthen the Mahokela’s capacity to coordinate patrols, respond quickly to incidents, and improve communication in their efforts to protect the community.
Speaking at a handover ceremony held at Matala chief’s offices yesterday, Dr Moroke said a secure community is the foundation for development and prosperity.
“By equipping our Mahokela with these devices, we are not just enhancing their ability to protect our neighbourhoods, but also empowering the people of Matala to take an active role in building a safe and united future,” he noted.
Dr Moroke also stated that it was necessary to develop a plan for the community policing forum to acquire walkie-talkies since their work was challenging.
For his part, Thabo Mphuthi, chairperson of the Matala Police Forum said they truly appreciated the MP’s efforts.
“The addition of walkie-talkies will significantly improve our communication on duty days, making our tasks much easier. We hope that with these communication devices will help us reduce crime in our community,” he indicated.
