The Lesotho Lowlands Water Development has signed three contracts worth over M700 million.

According to a statement from the ministry of water this week, the contracts are to ensure access of clean water for communities of Khanyane, Maputsoe, Tsikoane, Ha Lesiamo  and Mpharane in Leribe district.

During implementation of the project, UNIK Construction company will be focusing on construction of transmission mains, pumping stations and reservoirs in Maputsoe, while Qingjian Group will construct a distribution system for Tsikoane, Maputsoe and Mpharane.

The LLWDP-II, a government initiative implemented through the ministry of water, is designed and implemented as a brainchild of the Lesotho Lowlands Water Supply Scheme.

The LLWDP-II contains two prioritised packages – zones 2 and 3 in the Hlotse-Maputsoe area and zones 6 and 7 in Mohale’s Hoek and Mafeteng areas, respectively.

The project is financed by the World Bank and the European Investment Bank in partnership with the European Union.
