Publishing house Pat and Rex Soul Stories, a rising force in Lesotho’s literary scene, is on a mission to uplift and empower local writers.
Founded with a passion for storytelling and community, the publishing house offers comprehensive services including ghost writing, typesetting, ISBN acquisition, editing, and book launch coordination.
In an interview with theReporter, Mathe Masupha, co-founder and creative director of Pat and Rex Soul Stories, revealed the company’s commitment to supporting self-publishing authors and building strong, personal relationships with clients.
Their dedication was recently recognised with a 2024 Community Champion Award, celebrating their growing impact on the creative community.
Masupha explained that pricing is tailored to the length and complexity of each manuscript.
She also acknowledged the challenges of establishing a new company and educating the public on self-publishing, but noted that transparency and trust are key pillars of their approach. To protect authors’ intellectual property, the company employs Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) as a standard practice.
A vocal advocate for self-publishing, Masupha pointed out the limitations many writers face with traditional publishers.
“Self-publishing gives authors control over their work and its distribution,” she said. “It’s a powerful tool for creative freedom.”
Beyond the page, Pat and Rex Soul Stories supports authors in organising impactful book launches, ensuring their stories reach the right audience.
With over 13 years of experience in youth engagement and sustainable development, Masupha brings a distinctive perspective to the publishing industry.
Her vision goes beyond books – she seeks to inspire, empower, and transform lives through the art of storytelling.
Masupha advice to aspiring writers? “Start now. Read widely and research constantly to sharpen your writing. Create stories that will echo for generations.”
