Refiloe scoops Miss Lesotho title

Refiloe Makoe pipped a bevy of other beauties to be crowned Miss Lesotho 2024 at a glamorous and exciting event that was held at Victory Hall in Maseru this past Saturday. 

The event was graced by the presence of Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso and Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso, who added royal elegance to the occasion.

In a remarkable display of poise and grace, Refiloe, a former Miss Maseru, helped herself to the honours before a cheering and delighted audience. The competition showcased an impressive line-up of contestants, with Nthabiseng Lebona securing the title of first runner-up and Palesa Leanya taking home the second runner-up position.

The dazzling and sassy Refiloe expressed her heartfelt gratitude in an interview with theReporter, emphasizing the hard work and prayers that led to her victory.

“This opportunity means the world to me,” she said, beaming with joy.

As the night came to a close, the coronation of Miss Lesotho 2024 not only marked the beginning of Refiloe’s new journey, but also ignited hope and inspiration for the youth of Lesotho.

The event reaffirmed the power of beauty with a purpose, setting the stage for positive change in the community.

In addition to the prestige of the title, Refiloe’s victory comes with a substantial prize package valued at M100,000. This includes M45,000 in cash to provide her with immediate financial support. She will also receive a savings account with Lesotho Post Bank with an opening deposit of M2,500.

As testament to the pageant’s commitment to professional development, she further secured a three-month internship at Lesotho Revenue Services.

Her accommodation will be provided at Scenery Guest House Mokhotlong, ensuring her comfort during her reign. To enhance her connectivity and productivity, she will be awarded a Hauwei Nova smartphone and tablet valued at M15,000, alongside unlimited transportation by Global Cabs.

As part of her reign, the new Miss Lesotho is determined to make a difference in the lives of young people in the country.

She plans to implement a skills development programme, and partnering with sponsors dedicated to empowering the youth.

Additionally, she aims to launch a book drive for children in rural areas, encouraging donations to foster a love for learning.

Refiloe’s message to the youth is clear: “Do not miss the opportunity to learn new skills. It will sustain your life and help you tackle unemployment.”

The event not only celebrated beauty and talent but also highlighted the challenges faced by the organisers.

Mabahlakoana Mosola, the director of Miss Lesotho, shared insights into the hurdles encountered when putting together an event as massive as the Miss Lesotho pageant.

Despite these challenges, she expressed gratitude for the sponsors who believe in their vision, facilitating the success of the competition.

Looking ahead, Mosola announced that there will be no Miss Lesotho pageant in 2025.

Instead, the organisation plans to visit all 10 districts and will return in 2026 with a top 20 group of finalists in a bid to ensure representation from across the country.
