The Lesotho Network of Development of the Blind (LNBD) and the Lesotho Distance Learning Centre (LDTC) will commemorate World Braille Day on Friday this week.

The celebration honours Louis Braille, a French educator and inventor of a reading and writing system named after him, braille, intended for use by visually impaired people.

It also highlights the need for improved access to braille learning materials and literacy for both visually impaired and sighted individuals.

LNDB and LDTC aim to raise awareness about braille and advocate for its use in schools and encourage support from stakeholders to invest in accessible formats.

LNDB urges all Basotho to learn and support the rights of persons with disabilities.

“Braille is a gateway to dignity and independence,” the organisation said in a statement.
