The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) will on Friday launch an initiative to plant 40, 000 trees around the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) sites from July to October this year.

The event will take place at Ha Molapo in the Butha-Buthedistrict.

The tree planting exercise is one of several activities planned by LHDA to commemorate 40 years of impact by LHWP.

“The LHDA staff and stakeholders will engage in tree planting activities of 3,000 fruit trees and 7,000 fuel trees in each of the four LHWP project sites from July to October 2026,” the LHDA said in a statement.

Planting trees brings life to the environment resulting in well-kept rangelands that lead to healthy collection of water naturally, thereby having good reservoirs that live for generations
