The Ministry of Education and Training has directed all schools to sing the national anthem every day, preferably during morning assembly or at the start of the school day.
In a circular today, the ministry said learners must be taught the correct words, pronunciation, melody, tone and tempo of the anthem.
The directive also requires learners to stand upright and behave respectfully during the anthem, while teachers and staff are expected to lead by example.
Principals must regularly sensitise learners on the meaning and importance of the national anthem and other national symbols, the circular reads.
The ministry said district education managers and school inspectors will monitor compliance during routine school visits.
Principals have been given direct responsibility for ensuring the directive is implemented with immediate effect.
